The Wonders of Olive Oil

Looking at olive oil you may think it can't do much for you outside of dipping bread into it.

But it actually has so much more potential!  In fact Homer once called it "Liquid gold."  Not only can it be found in every common kitchen, but it's cheap too.

So what can you do with it?  Well, it can serve as:

-a foundation primer
-a makeup remover
-a skin moisturizer
-a hair conditioner
-a shaving oil
-Something yummy and healthy of course!

Let's have a look at it's power as a foundation primer, a shaving oil, and a moisturizer.

You may be thinking, won't this clog my pours?  It is an oil after all.  The answer to that is no.  Olive oil is considered non-comedogenic, meaning it is not likely to clog pours.  What it does do is deeply moisturize, regenerate skin cells, and soften tissues.  As a primer, not only will it double as a moisturizer, but it helps foundation and concealer go on smoothly as well.

Tips:
-When using as a primer, be sure to avoid the eye area so any eye makeup won't smudge
-A little goes a long way!
-Be sure to rub it in a bit so the shine turns from oily to a dewy glow

Now how about as a makeup remover?

Olive oil does an amazing job as a makeup remover.  Not only will it get most of your makeup off, but it won't leave your skin dry.  First take a cotton ball/pad/anything else that will work, and soak it in a little bit of the oil.  Then gently wipe off your makeup.  Easy right?

Next we'll see it as a hair conditioner.

This sounds a bit gross, but coating your hair with olive oil every month or so, can result in healthier, deeply conditioned hair.  My way of doing it by slathering it on, but here's a more subtle approach.  First wet your hair.  Then take as much olive oil as you want, but a minimum of a tablespoon, and begin combing it through your hair with your fingers.  Especially focus on coating the ends of your hair (they need the most love) and massaging it into your scalp.  Next you can get a plastic cap, tie up your hair, or whatever you need to do to keep it out of your way.  You can also put a towel around your shoulders.  Let the oil stand for at least half an hour.  Lastly, rinse and shampoo well.  If your hair looks or feels greasy, you can always shampoo again. Yous should be left with soft, shiny hair!

Now the last topic of discussion.  Olive oil as food!

Now this is the kind of fat you don't have to feel guilty about.  Everyone needs fat and olive oil is one of the healthiest kinds.  You could always down it straight...

But here's a much better, quick meal idea:  whip up some pasta, add some veggies, and use olive oil as a sauce.  Yum.

Enjoy your oil!
